The Purge/World War Z

Welcome to another edition of Phil Goes to the Movies, and today i am here to rate two movies today. So far, the movies for the beginning of the summer has started out pretty good, but nothing really amazing yet.

The Purge- This whole premise of this movie is a really wicked idea for a future world. Basically, for a whole 12 hours on one day of the year, crime is legal. There is so much you can do with this idea, but they decided to go with a cheap slasher film against an innocent family. This type of movie has been done before, and the audience watches as the family is tortured by the psychos. This time the family decides to fight back with guns, and the psychos begin acting like bitches when they realize the family is fighting back. I dunno, i went into this movie expecting sooo much more than this, micro story line revolving around this family. Such as great idea, but it was wasted on the storyline they chose to go with... shame!

Final Verdict- 5/10 basic average movie, been there done that type of movie. The movie could have gone in some many directions, but they chose this copout.

World War Z- Oh, the zombie craze, i never really understood why everyone has such a hard on for this genre, but in the last 5 years zombie movies, tv shows, and video games have been jammed down our throats. I went in to watch this movie not really expecting much, and i was in for a huge surprise. First off, the movie doesnt fuck around with a long beginning, it gets right to the good stuff, 10 minutes into the movie.

These ZOmbies were freaking terrifying, because i explain why... the traditional slow moving zombies dont freak me out! I would just shove these lifeless things to the ground, and get a bat or a sword, and go to town. Now, these zombies are fast and strong, now this is a problem. These guys dont get tired from running, so they never stop chasing you. If they never get tired then they will be at full strength, when they do catch you. Plus, these damn things freaking tackle people, violently! They move like a colony of ants, biting and clawing anything healthy and living. One other fact they say in the movie is the zombies get angry when you kill one of their own.

Holy shit, they are aware of their kind, and want to avenge their kin. I really enjoyed this movie, and the only thing i noticed they did in this movie is zombies are attracted to sound. When did this become the big thing for zombies? Seems like thats the new fad for zombies to be attracted to loud noises.... like a bunch of cranky old people, wanting nothing but quiet, or they will eat you.

Besides, that the movie did end a tad anti-climatic, and the plane crash, where Brad Pitt's character only had a metal shard in his side, and that was the extent of his injuries. Really? everyone else dies and hes all good.. thank god for seat belts!

Final Verdict- 8/10, really took zombie survival horror movies ot the next level!

Well, thats all for now... i shall return to see some more movies.. long summer season ahead of me, this iis Phil Goes to the Movies, so you don't have too!
